Australia Day isn’t just about the BBQ, lamingtons and sausage rolls!
One of our favourite aspects of Australia Day is the profound love Australians have for food, which serves as a unifying force, reflecting the myriad cultures that contribute to the country's culinary landscape.
Australia's multicultural society is a melting pot of flavours, and this diversity is vividly reflected in its cuisine. From indigenous bush foods to immigrant influences, the Australian culinary scene is a testament to the nation's openness to embracing various cultures.
While traditional Australian fare often centres around more accessible ingredients, Australia Day also provides an opportunity for indulgence and luxury especially when entertaining. Enter ANNA Dutch Caviar! Although not a native ingredient, Osetra & Siberian caviar has found its place among the diverse culinary offerings embraced by Australians, adding a touch of sophistication to any occasion.
Incorporating ANNA Dutch Caviar into each course can create a luxurious and unique Australia Day menu. Keep in mind that caviar is typically served in small amounts due to its intense flavour, so moderation is key! Here is our take on a classic Australia Day menu with a sprinkle of caviar magic:
Entree, Caviar Blinis
Mini buckwheat blinis topped with a dollop of crème fraîche and a generous serving of high-quality ANNA Dutch caviar. Garnish with chives and lemon zest.
Seafood Course, Caviar-Topped Oysters
Freshly shucked South Coast NSW Appellation Oysters served on a bed of crushed ice, each topped with a small spoonful of Osetra caviar. Accompany with a mignonette sauce and lemon wedges.
Main Course, Caviar-Crusted Barramundi
Humpty Doo NT Barramundi fillets coated with a light crust of breadcrumbs mixed with caviar, then baked to perfection. Served on a bed of sautéed spinach and drizzled with a lemon-butter sauce.
Salad, Avocado and Caviar Salad
Sliced ripe avocados arranged on a plate, drizzled with a lemon vinaigrette, and sprinkled with microgreens. Crown the dish with a touch of Classic Siberian caviar for a burst of flavour.
Dessert, Prosecco & Caviar Sorbet
A refreshing sorbet made with the finest Australian prosecco, we recommend Dal Zotto Col Fondo Prosecco, 2017, King Valley and garnished with a small spoonful of caviar. This palate-cleansing dessert offers a delightful contrast of textures and flavours.
Beverage Pairing, Blanc de Blancs
Serve a sparkling Blanc de Blancs throughout your meal, complementing the caviar's briny notes. Our current favourite splurge is the Swift 2011 Blanc de Blancs You can also provide a non-alcoholic sparkling option for those who prefer it.
